Kamal Hassan’s Project Chennai – 30 short films stories and Pictures

Kamal announced the launch of the project to produce 30 short films – essentially on Chennai – directed by some eminent directors. This project was born out of the screen writers’ workshop Kamal organised in IIT Madras a few weeks ago. 30 promising writers have been selected from among the attendees and these writers will be part of the team that will produce the 30 short films. Kamal in his interaction with the media said he was escited about the project and he was happy that eminent Directors have agreed to work on this project. He also mentioned that he was confident about the success of the project.

Says Kamal Hassan, “ This is an important occasion for Chennai and there are a lot of fond memories that I share about Chennai which excites me even now. “

Project ‘ Chennai’ an initiative taken by the Chennai International Screen writing Workshop organized recently by Raj Kamal Films at the IIT Madras is into action mode now. The project will be having 30 short films, where the participants will be scripting it and veteran directors from the industry will direct the best ones, of which Kamal Hassan and K.Hariharan, Director of L.V.Prasad Film and TV Academy will be directing a film or two. Jean Claude Carriere, Oscar-winning French script writer will be the mentor for a few films and he flagged off the event.

The topic given to them is ‘Chennai’ and it can be a documentary, animation film or a short fiction movie but should revolve around the city of 10 minutes duration each. Says Kamal Hassan, “It is a pleasure doing this and gives additional energy to us. This is an important occasion for Chennai and there are a lot of fond memories that I share about Chennai which excites me even now. I ‘am a small director and I will also be directing one movie.”

So on what basis will he select the movie that he will direct? “I ‘am yet to decide upon that. It will be something like a Swayamvar where I will have choose the best!” said the Actor to Chennaionline.

Carriere who has collaborated with Kamal on the scripts of Marudanayagam says that he loves everything and anything about South India, especially Chennai. From art to food and the people, he feels Chennai is a city full of stories. “This is a city of music and dance and there is so much to do about the city. One can dig into the roots of Chennai and can yield fantastic and interesting stories which will inspire in the future. These will not only be movies, but treasures in the future years.”

K.Hariharan felt that these short movies will be a tribute to the city and said that there are no boundaries or limitations for the participants to think about Chennai as there are so many things to do about the city.

The workshop that had 250 students will be short listed to 60 of which the best 30 winning entries would be taken.

One of the Best Actor in India, Dr Kamal Hassan plans to produce, direct and act in short films – based on Chennai, Tamil Nadu capital.

“It would be about 30 short films about this city called Chennai.” said Kamal Hassan.

Titled Chennai, 30 short films will be produced by Kamal Hassan. These 30 short films will be scripted by participants of the Chennai International Screenwriting Workshop.

Oscar winning French scriptwriter, Jean Claude Carriere, experienced director and film producer V. Hariharan will guide some of these short films.
