Murali one of the leading Malayalam actor died at 55 years at PRS hospital in Thiruvanathapuram. According to actor Murali’s close family sources that actor was suffered from diabetics and was under treatment for years but the situation goes serious this evening due to kidney failure. The actor came back only last week only from Cape Town in South Africa, where he was shooting for Surya’s Aadhavan, directed by K.S Ravikumar and produced by Udayanidhi Stalin. Actor Murali was popular in cine industry with his versatile acting and he was awarded as a best actor in 2002 for the movie “Neythukaran“. Actor Murali begins his career.

in Malayalam industry but with his multitalented acting he appeared in other languages like Tamil as well. More than this he was also the Chairman of the Kerala Sangeeth Natak Academy. Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 6 Eminent Malayalam film actor Murali died in a hospital here tonight after a brief illness.

An acute diabetic patient, Murali was admitted to a private hospital today and the end came as he suffered a heart attack, hospital sources said.

Murali, 55, is survived by wife and a daughter.

Murali had acted in around 200 films in his 30-year career.

He won the National award (Bharath) for the best actor in 2001 for his performance in “Neythukaaran” (Weaver) and had won four State awards for acting.

“Njhaattadi” (1979) directed by late ‘Bharat’ Gopi was his first film. His notable films include ‘Panchaagni’, ‘Laal Salaam’, ‘Venkalam’, ‘Amaram’, ‘Champakulam Thachan’, ‘Gershome’, ‘Ekaantham’, ‘Chamayam’ and ‘Meenamaasathile Sooryan’.

In theatre, his role of ‘Ravana’ in the play ‘Lankalakshmi’ directed by C N Sreekantan Nair had been widely appreciated. – (Agencies)

The funeral is likely to take place tomorrow evening at 5 pm with state honours, till then his body will be kept at the VJT Hall in Thiruvananthapuram. For Malayalam film industry it comes as a shock three deaths in the last 45 days- Lohitadas, Rajan.P. Dev and now Murali, all talented people who have given a lot for good cinema.

Acting career

Murali debuted into films with the lead role in Njattadi, directed by Bharath Gopi. But the film never released. He then got chance to act in Chidambaram, directed by national award winning filmmaker Aravindan. He then acted in Meenamasathile Sooryan and Panchagni, directed by noted film makers Lenin Rajendran and Hariharan, respectively. Panchagni got released first and it gave his the break in his acting career. He then quickly got established as a powerful actor in the Malayalam film industry. Adharam, directed by George Kittu was the first film to get released with Murali in lead role. He acted in a variety of roles ranging from lead roles to villain roles, and won accolades. Some of his other notable films include Nee Ethra Dhanya, Dhanam, The King,” Pathram”, Veeralippattu, Achan Kombathu Amma Varambathu, Meenamasathile Sooryan, Swarnam, and The Truth.

Murali acted in the longest TV commercial ever on Indian TV,spanning 150 seconds.This was for Air Deccan in 2005.
